Kindergarten (helpĀ·info) (German, literally means "children's garden") is a form of education for young children which serves as a transition from home to the commencement of more formal schooling. Children are taught to develop basic skills through creative play and social interaction. In most countries kindergarten is part of the preschool system of early childhood education. Children usually attend kindergarten any time between the ages of two and seven years, depending on the local custom. In most of the United States and anglophone Canada, as well as in parts of Australia (New South Wales, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory) kindergarten is the word used to describe the first year of compulsory education. In British English, nursery or playgroup is the usual term for preschool education, and kindergarten is rarely used, except in the context of special approaches to education, such as Steiner-Waldorf education (the educational philosophy of which was founded by Rudolf Steiner). GNU Free Documentation License What should incoming kindergarten students be able to do? Q. My daughter will be in kindergarten next fall. I was wondering about some of the things she should be expected to do. She cannot read yet, but she knows her alphabet and the sounds letters make. She is starting to sight read (recognize words). She is very verbal, and she has terrific fine motor skills. I guess I am most concerned whether or not she needs to be able to read by day one. My daughter did a degree in "Early Childhood Studies" and that more than qualifies her to undertake kindergarten and nursery management. She can also take a Post Graducate Certificate of Education if she wants which then allows her to teach infants and junior school children. Q. i have a few questions and it is my last year in high school and i am really confused: -What do I need to become a kindergarten teacher? -Do you have to go to college or university? If college then "What will I have to take in college?" -How long is this program? -Do teachers usually get paid okay? Asked by PakiGirlForeva - Tue Feb 23 17:36:52 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You must have four years of college, and in most cases a Master''s Degree during your first few years of teaching. In college you will need to take courses that will help you to teach students in every subject. The program is four years, including required classes for all students. Teachers are paid okay, although they must spend a lot of money on classroom supplies.
